Artist of the issue is Paul L. Snelson, II; he is a visual artist, scholar, and writer working on cybernetic arts and as a producer and business management software quality analyst at Thryv. He lives in Dallas, Texas, where he completed an MFA in Arts and Technology and an MA in Visual Art and Cybernetics at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Currently, Snelson is constructing a documentary hybrid 2D/VR film based on the all-encompassing design and structural influence of, Roy Ascott’s Cybernetic Art Matrix, virtually as a three-dimensional graph. The film will showcase the function of grid structure in a myriad of exemplary designs including science, technology, architecture, visual arts, music, and theatre. Ascott’s prescient concept of The Age of the Cybernetic Art Matrix / The C.A.M. era, is now the current point of view including an omni-media perspective now actualized in virtual reality and all standard viewing formats. Snelson is also working on an opera entitled Modus Operandi, which features a constructed theatrical set as the C.A.M., a three-dimensional cubic scaffolding structure where the fourth dimension of time as sound and music inhabits both space and time in a live black box theatrical production. The libretto text is available on his site.
