Connecting theoretical and practical concepts in mathematics, philosophy, cybernetics, interactions, art and technology, John Bardakos, Greek fine- and digital- art practitioner and Ph.D. researcher is this issue’s featured artist.
Bardakos’s approach to art and practice sees no boundaries. His lyrical images reveal his versatile intimacy with the domains of art and technology—markmaking and algorithms—through the fields of mathematics, digital and traditional media, as well as applied and fine arts. Grounded in deep philosophical, cybernetic and mathematical concepts, form takes center stage in his artwork which can be created in pen and ink as well as algorithmic digital renderings. His lines and shapes, and sometimes colors mediate our perception of the medium to highlight its message, which allows the viewer to navigate between physical, digital and hybrid media without losing the visual—and poetic—connection.
Currently Bardakos’s focus in art and research (Ph.D. between the Athens School of Fine Arts and the University Paris 8) is centered on interactive/spatial/digital poetics, philosophy, image, aesthetics, and narration in the context of artistic expression via mathematics, interaction, and traditional and digital art.
